The USS Nimitz CVN-68
The Nimitz was my third ship assignment, but my first permanent assignment. I had undergone two years of training prior to my assignment to the RE (Reactor Electrical) division in the Reactor Department. The Nimitz was still under construction in Newport News, Virginia- very much under construction. It was fortunate because I was able to go into every space aboard the ship, spaces that would soon become security areas or, because I was not assigned to the department in charge of the space, spaces I was not allowed into because I didn’t belong. But I got to see it all. Good times.
